Art from Andalusia (Islamic Spain)
January 2022
As a Visual Artist and Art teacher for the past 20 years, I am fascinated by the variety and beauty of Art and Architecture from the Muslim world.
In the Geometry in Islamic Art class, we delved into examples of perfect symmetry Allah has placed in the natural world. Through practical exercises we explored the geometry and symbolism behind the use of flowers in Islamic Art from Turkey and Damascus.
This semester, I invite you to come on a journey with me through Andalusia (south of Spain) and learn about its historic significance. Also, let’s delve into its breathtaking architecture and art from the Islamic era, recreating and taking inspiration from it for our own artworks.
There will be a variety of art skills that we shall try each week. Projects will range from architectural sketching, geometry, watercolor painting, tessellations and mixed media.
