Class Description

Being Beautiful is a class that uncovers the beauty within our interactions with others.

Through thoughtful exploration and practical guidance, students will learn the nuances of social interaction and etiquette, equipping them with the tools to navigate various scenarios with the best conduct. From simple everyday encounters to more specific situations, this course offers much to consider in refining one’s behaviour so it is characterized by respect and elegance.

Each week, we will explore different aspects of interpersonal communication and behaviour, offering valuable lessons and insights. From active listening to cultivating empathy and understanding, students will learn how to act in alignment with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the best example for Muslims and all of mankind.

This class encourages self-reflection, inviting students to examine their behaviour and identify areas for growth. By developing self-awareness and mindfulness, they will better understand the impact of their actions and the importance of positive connections. By the end of the class, students will gain confidence and a refined approach to social interaction, ready to touch hearts with sincerity and grace, inshaAllah.

Class Outline

Week 1:  Introduction to Adab

In this introductory session, we will explore the concept of Adab, going beyond manners to understand it as a way of being that shapes our interactions. Students will learn how good behaviour creates safety and trust through both inner character and outward actions. By reflecting on the meaning of beauty, we will connect it to Adab as a balance of external grace and inner integrity, helping students appreciate its role in building meaningful connections.

Week 2:  Etiquettes of a Beautiful Guest and a Beautiful Host

This week, students will learn the etiquettes of being both a beautiful guest and a gracious host. They will explore ten key etiquettes of a guest, including gratitude and respect, and five essential etiquettes of a host, such as warmth, generosity, and attentiveness, all of which contribute to a harmonious and welcoming environment.

Week 3:  Etiquettes of Talking and Listening, and Behaviour with Teachers and Scholars

In this interactive session, students will take part in Zoom breakout rooms for role-play activities. They will learn six key etiquettes of effective communication, focusing on both speaking and listening, as well as the proper manners of interacting respectfully with teachers and scholars in learning environments.

Week 4:  Etiquettes with Elders, Parents, and Youngsters

Students will explore six essential etiquettes when interacting with elders, parents, and younger individuals. Through role-play exercises, they will apply both new and previously learned etiquettes, strengthening their understanding of respectful behaviour, empathy, and social awareness across different age groups.

Week 5:  Etiquettes of Visiting the Sick and Final Reflections

In this final session, students will learn the etiquettes of visiting the sick and offering condolences, focusing on compassion and appropriate conduct during difficult times. The class will conclude with reflection on how these etiquettes help build a caring and supportive community, reinforcing the importance of adab in all aspects of life.
