Class Description

'From Values to Victory: Adab and Your First Job' is a dynamic, five-week course designed to prepare students for their first job while staying grounded in Islamic values. Students will learn essential skills like writing a professional resume, acing job interviews, and effective communication. They'll also dive into workplace etiquette, teamwork, time management, and strategies for handling conflicts, all through the lens of adab (Islamic manners). Engaging, real-life scenarios, and interactive discussions will help teens feel confident and ready to step into the professional world with respect, integrity, and a strong work ethic.

Class Outline

Week 1: Introduction to Adab and Its Relevance

In the first week, we will explore the concept of adab and its significance in both personal and professional life. Students will learn how good manners, respect, and integrity shape interactions in the workplace and beyond. We’ll discuss universal principles of adab and why they are essential for success, no matter the career path. Through engaging discussions and a reflective activity, students will identify examples of good and bad etiquette, setting the stage for understanding how Islamic character influences professional growth.

Week 2: Communication Skills for Success

Effective communication is key to building strong professional relationships. This session will cover verbal and non-verbal communication skills, focusing on clear and respectful interactions. Students will learn essential workplace etiquette, including when writing professional emails, conducting phone conversations, and practicing active listening. Using fun improv activities, they will get hands-on experience in professional conversations, helping them gain confidence in speaking and expressing themselves appropriately.

Week 3: Professional Conduct and Work Ethic

What does it mean to be a reliable and respected employee? This week, we’ll discuss the importance of punctuality, responsibility, and teamwork in the workplace. Students will also explore ways to balance their Islamic values while meeting workplace demands and expectations.

Week 4: Navigating Challenges and Maintaining Ethics

Workplaces can present challenges, from difficult coworkers to ethical dilemmas. This session will equip students with strategies for handling workplace stress, resolving conflicts, and staying true to their values. We’ll explore real-life scenarios where ethical decision-making is tested and discuss how to approach these situations with wisdom and integrity.

Week 5: Getting Ready for Your First Job

In this final week, we will go over resume building, interview preparation, and workplace dress codes. Students will receive tips for making a strong first impression and understanding workplace norms, to help them feel confident in getting ready for their first job.
