RabaTEENS is a nurturing space for deep and meaningful Islamic spiritual mentorship with compassionate and caring mentors. We design fun, creative, and positive educational experiences to help teens grow confidently and comfortably into their faith.

Class Description

Glow & Grow Gathering is a reflection class and group discussion inspired by Anse Dr. Tamara Gray’s beloved 40 Lessons for Life—a digital book (not available for purchase) that is filled with reflection, honesty, and gentle wisdom drawn from Anse Tamara’s 40 years of living in Islam.

Each week, we will focus on specific advice from the lessons. These gatherings are designed to be interactive and engaging for teens. Students will have the chance to connect with like-minded peers, reflect on meaningful topics, and strengthen both their personal growth and self-confidence. By exploring themes such as bitterness, argumentation, grumpiness, and procrastination, students will develop critical thinking skills and learn to express themselves with confidence in a group setting. Self-reflection—one of the most powerful tools for growth—will be at the heart of this class.

Class Outline

Week 1:  Don’t Mix Your Favorite Drink with Your Bitterness

In the first week, we will reflect on the dangers of dwelling on past annoyances and replaying them over and over in our minds. Anger and hurt are natural feelings, but resentment and bitterness have a harmful effect on the heart. Together, we will discuss how to prevent bitterness from taking root.

Week 2:  Do You Want to Be Right, or Do You Want Jannah?

This week, we will talk about how often we argue over small matters simply to prove that we are right. Argumentation for the sake of winning is not pleasing to Allah ﷻ.  Sometimes, we need to pause, let go of the need to win, and focus on the bigger picture.

Week 3:  Don’t Be a Cranky Hijabi

In the third week, we will ask ourselves: Are we fun to live with? A frowning hijabi does not reflect the beauty of Islam. We will consider how it feels to be around someone who constantly complains or is always grumpy, and we’ll learn what it means to be good company and to practice gratitude.

Week 4:  When You Wake Up, Get Up!

This week, we will discuss procrastination and the struggles of prioritizing. How many times have we set an alarm, only to hit snooze and roll back to sleep? Why do we do this, and what does it say about how we manage our goals? We will explore ways to push past procrastination and build discipline.

Week 5:  Perfectionism Is the Enemy of Done

In our final week, we will talk about how perfectionism and procrastination often prevent us from completing projects. Having unfinished tasks can weigh us down, while completing them is a blessing. Together, we will reflect on whether perfectionism is holding us back from keeping promises and moving forward.
