RabaTEENS is a nurturing space for deep and meaningful Islamic spiritual mentorship with compassionate and caring mentors. We design fun, creative, and positive educational experiences to help teens grow confidently and comfortably into their faith.

Class Description

What does it mean to have a grateful heart, even when life doesn't go as planned? How can we make gratitude more than just words, but a way of life? Gratitude is like a muscle that grows stronger with practice! In this 5-week class, students will explore how to nurture a grateful heart, deepen their connection with Allah ﷻ, and find blessings in everyday life, even through life's ups and downs.

Through reflections on the Quran and Sunnah, engaging discussions, and practical exercises, students will explore the importance of purifying the heart and developing spiritual habits through tafakkur (reflection), istighfar (seeking forgiveness), dhikr (remembrance of Allah ﷻ), and shukr (gratitude). Throughout the course, students will create their own personalized gratitude journals, adding reflections, duas, and practical tools each week. By the end of the class, they'll have a meaningful journal to continue using as they grow in faith. Come plant the seeds of gratitude and discover how a grateful heart can bloom!

Class Outline

Week 1:  Preparing the Soil – Understanding the Heart

What does it mean to have a healthy, grateful heart? We'll explore the importance of purifying our hearts, recognize common diseases of the heart, and reflect on lessons from the Quran and the life of the Prophet ﷺ. Students will begin their personal gratitude journals by setting intentions and writing a dua for their spiritual growth.

Week 2:  Tilling the Soil – The Power of Istighfar

Just as soil needs care before seeds can grow, our hearts need regular cleansing. This week, we'll explore tawbah (repentance) and istighfar (seeking forgiveness), and how turning back to Allah ﷻ can help soften and renew our hearts. Students will reflect on their daily habits and discover simple ways to make istighfar part of everyday life.

Week 3:  Planting the Seeds – Finding Blessings Through Reflection

How often do we overlook the blessings around us? Through tafakkur (reflection) and muhasabah (self-accountability), students will learn to recognize Allah's ﷻ blessings in both ordinary and unexpected moments. We'll also explore some of the beautiful names of Allah ﷻ and how reflecting on them can deepen our appreciation and connection with Him.

Week 4:  Nurturing Gratitude – Growing in Shukr

Gratitude is more than simply saying Alhamdulillah. This week, we'll explore shukr (gratitude), hamd (praise), and rida (contentment), and discover how gratitude can be expressed through our words, actions, and attitudes. Students will learn practical ways to develop grateful habits, even when facing challenges.

Week 5:  Blooming with Faith – The Prophetic Example of Gratitude

What can we learn from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about living with gratitude? In our final week, we'll explore his beautiful example of thankfulness, the importance of salawat (sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ), and ways to bring these practices into our daily lives. Students will complete their personalized gratitude journals and set meaningful goals to continue nurturing their hearts beyond the classroom.
