Class Description

In this 5-week minimester, Anse Michelle will introduce you to basic vocal techniques and exercises to help you become a better singer. Even if you don't think you're great yet, anyone can develop the skills needed to be an amazing vocalist. The secret is, if you have a voice, you can sing! Each week, you will learn a new technique to improve your voice. By the end of each session, we will put our newly learned skill into practice with a song.

Class Outline

Week 1: Breathe!

In our first session, we'll dive into the importance of breathing from your diaphragm for singing and explore exercises to master this technique. You'll learn how to control your breath, which is essential for sustaining notes and achieving smooth vocal transitions.

Week 2: It’s Really A Science: Voice Physiology

Understanding the mechanics of your voice is crucial for improving your singing. We'll delve into voice physiology, discussing how your body works during vocalization and the significance of maintaining proper posture. Plus, we'll uncover the impact of tongue placement on your sound and how minor adjustments can make a big difference.

Week 3: Repeat After Me: Pitch Recognition & Ear Training

This week, we'll focus on honing your pitch recognition skills through solfege exercises based on the major scale. You'll engage in various ear training exercises to sharpen your ability to identify and replicate different pitches accurately. Depending on your proficiency level, we may even explore harmonies based on solfeggio, adding depth to your vocal repertoire.

Week 4: Work it out!: Vocal Warm Ups & Exercises

Join us for a fun session filled with vocal warm-ups and exercises designed to strengthen and refine your singing abilities. You'll learn simple yet effective vocal warm-ups to prepare your voice for practice and performance. Through a series of exercises, you'll continue to build upon the skills learned in previous sessions, enhancing your vocal range and control.

Week 5: Take it Easy: Tips on Increasing Vocal Range

In our final class, we'll explore gentle techniques for expanding your vocal range naturally and without strain. You'll discover strategies to develop your vocal strength and improve tone quality.
