RabaTEENS is a nurturing space for deep and meaningful Islamic spiritual mentorship with compassionate and caring mentors. We design fun, creative, and positive educational experiences to help teens grow confidently and comfortably into their faith.

Class Description

The dunya is loud — full of distractions, endless noise, and the constant demand for instant results. This class is your chance to hit pause, breathe, and “get lost” in creativity, imagination, and self-expression.

Being a teen isn’t always easy. Emotions can get messy, pressure can pile up, and sometimes you’re not even sure why you feel the way you do. This is your safe space to explore ways to express yourself. Whether through Islamic poetry and prose or reflecting on the Names of Allah, this class will help you “figure it out.” You’ll learn to write duas straight from the heart, find Quran verses that speak to you, and use art, words, and reflection to express what’s inside — all while growing in confidence and faith.

In this class, you’ll check in with your heart each week through different themes of writing, sketching, and journaling in a completely judgment-free zone. This interactive course encourages and nurtures creative expression through storytelling, poetry, drawing, designing, and spiritual reflection.

Class Outline

Week 1:  Introduction to Journaling

Students will be introduced to the endless possibilities of journaling. Whether sketching, illustrating with words, writing out feelings, or telling a story, they will learn how to express themselves confidently and understand the benefits of this creative practice.

Week 2:  The Art of Prose and Poetry

Ready, set, express! Students will read and listen to Islamic poetry and prose from a variety of writers, past and present, and then work together as a team to create a collaborative poem.

Week 3:  Who Me? I’m a Muslim!

Journaling provides insight into our emotions and helps us navigate them. This class will focus on celebrating the unique qualities of each student while encouraging reflection on personal goals and aspirations. Through prompts, students will write about their dreams, values, and duas, exploring who they are and who they want to become.

Week 4:  A Letter to Allah

Students will reflect in nature — either outdoors at home, in a nearby park, or through a “virtual field trip” via Zoom. Surrounded by the beauty of Allah’s ﷻ  creation, they will contemplate on the Names of Allah ﷻ  and write a heartfelt letter to Him, expressing gratitude, duas, feelings, and anything that comes to mind during this moment of reflection.

Week 5:  Tafakkur: Spiritual Reflection

In our final week, students will use their imagination to envision Jannah and express their ideas through writing, drawing, Quranic verses, or a combination of mediums. We will reflect on the connection between the heart and soul, and explore the changes that happen when we regularly journal our thoughts and feelings.
