RabaTEENS is a nurturing space for deep and meaningful Islamic spiritual mentorship with compassionate and caring mentors. We design fun, creative, and positive educational experiences to help teens grow confidently and comfortably into their faith.

Class Description

Life brings seasons of joy, uncertainty, disappointment, loss, and change. Mental Wellbeing: Hearts Illuminated by Faith invites Muslim teen girls to explore how they can nurture their emotional and spiritual well-being while remaining connected to Allah ﷻ through life’s different seasons. Drawing from the Quran, the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, stories of the Companions, and practical well-being principles, students will explore resilience, gratitude, balance, healthy self-awareness, and compassionate relationships through an Islamic lens.

Throughout the five weeks, students will reflect on their strengths and purpose, caring for the mind and body as an amanah, remaining steadfast through difficulties, supporting others with mercy and compassion, and cultivating gratitude and hope. The class is complemented by peer support and selected reflections from Anse Sumaiyah’s own experiences, creating opportunities for students to learn from one another and recognize how their emotional experiences can be connected to their journey toward Allah ﷻ. These reflections are intended to inspire hope and personal growth, and the class is educational in nature rather than counseling or therapy.

Class Outline

Week 1:  Created with Purpose: Discovering Your Strengths

Students will explore how Allah ﷻ has created every person with purpose and unique strengths that can be used in His service. Through the story of Sayyidina Bilal ibn Rabah (R) and reflection on the Beautiful Names of Allah ﷻ, students will develop healthy self-awareness and learn to recognize their strengths with gratitude rather than comparison.

Week 2:  Honoring the Trust: Caring for Mind, Body, and Soul

Students will explore how their bodies, hearts, and time are an amanah from Allah ﷻ. Through the story of Salman al-Farisi (R) and Abu Darda (R), they will consider the importance of balance and learn how caring for their energy and developing sustainable routines can help prevent burnout and support their overall well-being.

Week 3:  Steadfast Through the Storm

Students will explore how faith can help them navigate trials, uncertainty, and difficult emotions. Reflecting on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at Ta’if, they will learn about sabr, tawakkul, and hope, and consider how challenges can become opportunities to turn toward Allah ﷻ and develop resilience.

Week 4:  Walking Together: Being a Source of Mercy

Students will explore how believers can strengthen and support one another through compassion, mercy, and sincere companionship. Through the example of Abu Bakr (R) during the Hijrah, they will consider what supportive friendship looks like and how they can become sources of comfort and encouragement for others.

Week 5:  Hearts of Gratitude

Students will explore shukr as a way of life and consider how gratitude can strengthen their relationship with Allah ﷻ, cultivate hope, and support ongoing emotional and spiritual growth. Through the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a grateful servant of Allah ﷻ, students will reflect on how gratitude can continue shaping their lives beyond the course.

Instructor

Anse Sumaiyah Mohamed

Anse Sumaiyah Mohamed from Singapore is a true-blue INFP and a homebody, mostly found hanging out with her family, including her cat Sunshine, as well as reading, writing poems, journaling, sewing, and most especially, learning about Islam from Ribaat Academic Institute with the amazing Anisat who have lit up her life. Anse Sumaiyah loves Rabateering in Rabata’s Halaqa programme and with Rabata Malaysia. She also enjoys spending time with the unofficial Joy Jots Book Club in Singapore, which meets weekly online and monthly for salawat walks. Anse Sumaiyah was a youth when she experienced a mental health breakdown. She is eternally grateful, for it was Allah’s beautiful way of bringing her onto a path of return to Him, to understanding the love she already had around her, and the sacred calling that awaited her: being mentally strong and encouraging others to be so too. She is a certified peer support specialist and a senior programme coordinator in a nonprofit mental health organisation.
